Portland cautious for Amesbury

Friday 09th October 2020

PORTLAND United interim boss Gary Bailey exercised caution ahead of meeting fellow strugglers Amesbury Town at the Camp & Satherley Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

Portland, like Amesbury, have taken just a solitary point in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division this season.

But Bailey insisted the Blues had no given right to expect three points from the encounter.

He told Echosport: “I’m not sure we’re in any position to pick and choose games we can take something out of.

“We’ve had three really, really tough games against sides that are up there and fancied – top Wessex League sides.

“Like ourselves, Amesbury haven’t necessarily had the best start. Being at home, we’ve got no God-given right to win games.

“If we go about our business the right way it will be a game we’ll hopefully be able to take something out of.”

He added: “All teams in the Wessex League give you a tough game. I’m expecting a tough task.

“We need to prepare properly and approach it the same as we have done against these so-called top sides in the last three games.

“If we do that, and get the finer points of our game right, then we’ve got every chance of giving Amesbury a game.”

Lewis Whyton is close to making a comeback after a hamstring problem, while Alex Halloran is available after overcoming a quad injury.
