Dual role ‘big ask’ for GB

Wednesday 07th October 2020

PORTLAND United interim boss Gary Bailey admits taking on two roles at the Blues is a “big ask”.

Bailey assumed temporary control of the chairman’s hotseat after previous chief Robin Satherley retired.

After former manager Callum Brooks resigned, Bailey also shouldered the burden of acting boss along with Mark Carter.

But Bailey, who won three titles in four years at the Blues in a previous spell, is pleased to help out.

“It’s a big ask, it’s not ideal,” he told Echosport.

“It’s not just me doing it and I was the obvious choice to step in.

“I’d never see the players at the club not have someone to look after things.

“The chairman side, we’re comfortable with the position there.

“It’s run as a committee and everyone behind the scenes are all pulling in the right direction to make sure the club is still being run properly and as efficiently as it can be.

“That’s a completely separate entity to what’s going on on the pitch. Not having a chairman is not having an impact on what’s happening on the on-field side of things.

“We’re dealing with the loss of a manager in exactly the same way now as we are whether we have a chairman or me acting as interim.”
