PORTLAND UTD RES 0 WESTLAND SPORTS 7

Saturday 09th March 2019

Portland United Reserves fell to a heavy defeat on Saturday at The Weyline Stadium in The Dorset Premier League to title chasing Westland Sports. In a torrid game where The Blues were 2nd best in every department according to Portland United Reserves Manager Justin Faulkner. The Blues found themselves 3-0 down at half time and from then on there was no way back.

Looking back at the game Faulkner commented "On the day we were 2nd best in every department, to be in with a chance of getting anything we needed to be at our very best and they would need to have an off day, that didnt happen. Quite the opposite, we had the worst game of this season and they have had the best display in a very very long time according to their Social Media outlets. They are the only team to have comfortably beat us this season and they have done that twice."

"The current amount of unavailabilities, suspensions and injuries is severely limiting what was available for me on the day and we really lacked any sort of options. I can`t use that as an excuse for the performance though which lacked energy, desire and determination. If they are allowed to play they will hurt us, they are a good team, we knew that and we still didn`t get close enough all over the pitch."

"The important thing is we learn from that, try to put it behind us and I hope we don`t see these type of performances on a regular basis, changes will be made for the next game!"

"On the positive side it was pleasing to see Sol and Manny Roche part of the 1st team match day squad once again, we do have some promising youngsters who we feel could step up eventually. Any of the other players looking to follow suit will need to produce better than what we served up on Saturday and this also outlines the importance of having a reserve side.
