Portland and Parley played out a stalemate on Saturday in The Dorset Premier League at The Weyline Stadium with Portland United Reserves Manager claiming his side `could and should have taken all 3 points`.

With the wind at their backs in the 1st half Portland had the best opportunities as Alex Hallorans delivery in to the box found Sol Roche whose finished went wide of the post. Halloran twice forced away stopper Taylor Hibbs to tip the ball around his post. Hibbs ironically played for Portland in The Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division last season. Alex Godfrey saw his shot rise above the bar.

After the break Portland enjoyed the Lions share of possession but was finding it hard to get out against a high pressing Parley side against the wind. The best chances of the second half again fell to the home side, Sol Roche went through one on one but his touch deserted him at the crucial moment. The home side were than awarded a penalty when a Parley player was adjudged to have handled the ball. Billy Mitchell saw the resulting spot kick saved by former Blue Hibbs. In the dying minutes Ed Basticks free kick was well held.

Looking back at the game Portland united Reserves manager Justin Faulkner commented "It was a frustrating game, the wind didn`t help at all in that respect, I think we`ve played ok despite that. Perhaps being critical I`d say we weren`t decisive enough in the final 3rd or the final ball wasn`t quite right. On the balance of play though I think we edged the game and probably should have done better with our chances and won the game, a penalty miss is disappointing when you`ve not won the game. I think our keeper has only made 2 saves, one was from their goal kick! But putting it in to perspective we have taken 4 points from an established and experienced side, we would have taken that at the start of the season, so that is a positive."

Faulkner also added "We try and look for the positives in everything we do, there has been far more than negatives this season. There is still alot of football to play till the end of the season but I`d say we have had a good one so far, pleasing that we don`t have many regrets or look at certain games and say `what if?` Also during the season we have had a high turnover of players, using no less than 49 players. Obviously we know our role as a reserve side but our squad as a reserve side I believe is much better now than it was at the start of the season with more committed players, the average age is also much lower. Which is what we need to do as a club and that is find the new youngsters who will go on and play Wessex League football, they are doing OK so far!
