Portland United Reserves put their poor run of form behind them in The Dorset Premier League on Saturday as they brought all the points away from Shaftesbury. This was the second time Portland had taken a 3-0 victory away from Cockrams this season as the Senior sides had met with the same score line back in November.

It was the visitors who had the best chances of the half as Josh Camp saw his finish cleared off the line by a covering defender with the away side claiming hand ball against him. Camp also saw his free kick narrowly clear the home sides crossbar with the goal keeper rooted to the spot after Lloyd Beals had been felled on the edge of the penalty area. Manny Roche saw his drive off target when teed up on the edge of the box.

In response Charlie Browne hit an audacious shot from fully 30 yards which crashed against the Ross Jones crossbar but it would be Portland who edged ahead just before half time as Che Currans ball across the box was controlled by Camp before placing it in to the net.

After the break the game continued much the same as the 1st with Portland controlling the game with possession football and Shaftesbury looking to get the ball forward quickly for their 2 strikers and it was no surprise when Portland extended their lead as Billy Mitchell, who was a thorn in Shaftesburys side all afternoon, saw his shot rebound off the post with Sol Roche quickest to the ball and finding the net.

Portland added their 3rd in the dying minutes as substitute Lance Wilson played in Sol Roche to beat the keeper with a low finish inside the far post.

Looking back at the game Portland United Reserves manager Justin Faulkner commented "I`m happy that we have managed to put our recent run of defeats behind us and equally as happy at our performance today. We played some really good football which they struggled to cope with at times and we were dogged and determined to keep a clean sheet. I thought our defending was superb today and as I said to the lads we defend as a team it`s everyones responsibility."

Faulkner also added "We are 20 leagues games in to the season which we have won half of, that only leaves 12 league games remaining. If you had offered us that before we kicked the season off or even after the opening game of the season where we lost 8-0 at Westlands I would have bitten your hand off. This side has come a long way this season and being young they will only improve, I`m sure most can go on to represent the 1st team in the Wessex League and some already have, it`s a good mix. We know we can`t rest on our laurels though with another away game next week against a Blandford side who are on a good run themselves"
