Broadstone 1 Portland United Reserves 4

Saturday 14th April 2018

Portland United Reserves saw off Broadstone in The Dorset Senior League on Saturday in The Dorset Senior League in a game that Portland United Reserves Manager claims his side were still not at their best.

Sanchez Baker opened the scoring when he controlled a cross from Rory Zima before the rolling the ball in to the net.

Portland then went 2-0 up when young Lance Wilson beat 3 or 4 players before having his shot blocked by the home keeper, Wilson making no mistake with the follow up.

The other best chances of the half fell to Baker who was denied by the home keeper when one on one and Adam Linaker having his goal bound effort also saved when it looked to have goal written all over it.

Broadstone did pull one back before half time as a low drive beat stand in keeper Jack Brown.

In the second half Portland improved and it wasn`t long before Baker had his second of the game as he was played in behind the Broadstone rearguard and finishing clinically.

Aiden Jackson rounded off the scoring for the Blues after being played in by Baker and finishing emphatically high in to the net.

Portland still had other chances as Aaron Ryan got in behind twice but couldn`t find the finish, Wilson fired over from a good position, Baker also hit the crossbar with the ball bouncing down on the line but was adjudged not to have crossed it. Portland also hit the post late on as they continued to create chances.

Looking back at the game Faulkner commented "We weren`t at our best today, in the 1st half we looked lethargic and lacked energy, but we still took a lead in to half time. The second half was better but still a long way short of what we are capable of. We created alot of chances on a bobbly surface which could have made it a bit mor comfortable for us after they made it 2-1."

Faulkner also added "This result moves us in to the top 4 with a lot of games in hand on the teams below us. We are 5 points off top with a game in hand which I would have bitten your hand off if you`d given me that after our poor start to the season when we lost 4 of our opening 7 games. Our next game isnt till Tuesday 24th April when we travel to Beaminster for a 6.30 kick off, we know this will be a very tough game, but we will go there with confidence that we can get a result.
