Portland United Res 5 Beaminster 1

Sunday 25th March 2018

Exactly one calendar month after their last game Portland United Reserves were back in action in The Dorset Senior League as they hosted 4th placed Beaminster.

The game saw two of the form teams in the league going head to head, Portland were on a run of 5 wins in their last 7 whilst Beaminster were on a streak of 6 straight victories.

The Blues took a 1-0 advantage in to the break, the goal coming after 15 mins from Josh Camps neat finish after being played in by Sean Zima.

After the break the visitors rallied and were level from a needless corner conceded by the home team. The initial delivery was cleared, but the ball back in to the box found substitute Tristan Gale unmarked in the area to equalise.

This seemed to kick start the hosts in to action, replying almost immediately as good approach play by Sean Hawke found Lewis Clarke in space, his delivery was headed home by Sanchez Baker.

Moments later Portland put the game beyond Beaminster as Josh Camps left wing corner was headed home by skipper Adam Anstey for his first goal of the season.

As the game began to stretch The Blues added a fourth following a goal mouth scramble, Substitute Aaron `shin pads` Ryan putting the ball in the net at the second attempt.

The scoring was completed as another substitute Lance Wilson was crudely felled in the area by Murray Legg who was booked for the challenge, Zima coolly slotting home from the penalty spot.

There was still time for drama as Legg was given his marching orders following another lunge on Wilson, during the heated exchanges Josh baker also saw a straight Red Card for something he said towards the referee.

Looking back at the game Portland United Reserves Manager Justin Faulkner commented "That is a good win for us, Beaminster were on a good run which has seen them win all of their last 6 games but we are in good form ourselves winning 5 of the last 7. So we knew it would be a tight game, and it proved that for the 1st hour of the game until they equalised, we hit back straight away which seemed to deflate them, and then we took control."

Faulkner also added "That was our 1st league game for a month, we still have nearly half of our league season to play in 2 months! We are quietly putting a run together which sees us top of the form guide over the last 8 games which is very encouraging. The aim for us is to keep our standards as high as they have been and then we will see what happens."

Portland United Reserves next game is Wednesday 4th April when they travel to Wincanton Town Reserves in The Dorset Senior League, 6.30pm kick off.
