Fareham test cannot come quickly enough for Portland

Friday 30th November 2018

PORTLAND United boss Brendon King is eager to return to action and claim another victory when the Blues travel to Fareham Town in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).

King’s men have stormed up the table to second in recent weeks, winning their last four league games while conceding just one goal.

The Blues have constructed a nine-game unbeaten sequence in the Wessex Premier and will be looking for another positive result against the Creeksiders, who occupy 12th place, some 15 points behind Portland.

However, with near incessant rain during the week, King is hopeful the weather does not interrupt his team’s purple patch.

He told Echosport: “It gets a bit wet up there but it is what it is. You’ve got to go to some of these places and get on with it.

“At the end of the day, we want to play matches at the moment because we’re playing well. Matches can’t come quick enough.

“Hopefully the weather (relents) and we can go out there and put another good performance in.

“It’s important we try and carry on doing what we’re doing. It’s another tough one.

“On their own patch they’re a difficult side, they’ve got some good players. We’re under no illusions again – we’ve got to do the things that have got us where we are.”

Portland sit behind runaway leaders Sholing, who have won each of their 14 games so far, but King is keen to focus within.

He said: “We can only look after ourselves, I don’t look at any other teams.

“We’ve got to make sure our own house is in order.”

Ross Doidge is suspended while Shaun Bessant and Ed Bastick continue to nurse abdominal strains. Max Buckler returns from a ban.
