Easy pickings for Portland boss Brendon King

Thursday 01st November 2018

BRENDON King is enjoying how easy it is for him to pick his Portland United side at the minute, after his team recorded back-to-back 6-2 wins in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division.

Portland first thrashed Bemerton Heath Harlequins on Saturday, before thumped Bashley 6-2 on Tuesday night.

King said: “It was a really good performance away from home, it was a professional performance.

“To go away from home, especially at Bashley, which is not the easiest place.

“They are not a bad side. They are going to cause teams problems this season and to come away with a 6-2 win I could not have asked for any more.”

The result leaves the Blues fourth, and could move to second should they win a game in hand.

When asked if the squad are beginning to look at a title challenge, King said: “We have not really spoke about that. It is far too early to talk about things like that, we are only in November.

“At the moment, Darren Watts missed out through injury on Tuesdsay, so Sean Stewart came in his place and at the moment it is easy for me to pick a side because everyone is doing their jobs and playing well.

“In terms of that respect, players know that they have got to be on it otherwise there will be someone to come in and take their place.”
