Portland boss Brendon King has faith for Clevedon cup bid

Friday 10th August 2018

PORTLAND United boss Brendon King has “good faith” in his players ahead of an FA Cup extra preliminary round battle with Clevedon Town tomorrow (3pm).

King’s men travel to the Seasiders, who also compete in the ninth tier of English football in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division, after a 2-1 midweek loss to Bournemouth Poppies.

Despite knowing his charges will be “hurting” after that defeat, King is confident in his side’s ability.

He told Echosport: “We’ve got a big game and I’ve got good faith in the lads.

“I know them well and I know they’ll be hurting after that. It’s a big game and we’ll approach it in the right way.”

King is also keen for his players to experience a cup run, adding: “It’s nice to have one, but we just take it one game at a time. Your bread and butter is your league.

“It’s all to do with a little bit more revenue for the club. It’s more prestigious for players to go as far as they can in it.”

Portland are expected to welcome back Jamie Symes, Ed Bastick and Richard Marshallsay (broken ribs) for the fixture in Somerset.

King said: “We’ve got that bigger squad that gives us a few more options and allows us to rotate and play other players.”
