Simon Browne's men out to make amends

Friday 10th November 2017

PORTLAND United boss Simon Browne feels the Blues have “demons to exorcise” when his side travels to 20th-placed Amesbury Town in the Sydenham Wessex Premier League tomorrow (3pm).

Browne’s men, who lie ninth, are on a run of three consecutive wins, but lost 5-2 to Town at Grove Corner in the League Cup earlier this season.

Now the Blues’ manager is hoping to make amends by claiming all three points at Bonneymead Park.

He told Echosport: “It was a pretty poor night when we lost to them in the League Cup. I did make a few changes on the night but that wasn’t an excuse.

“We’ve been better than that since then which is good. We’re on a little run at the moment so I’d expect us to be considerably better than the last time we played them.

“In the Wessex League there are sides more than capable of getting results at sides higher in the league. We’ve got a couple of demons to exorcise so we’ll try and get the three points.”

Last week’s 3-2 win at second-placed Blackfield and Langley has reassured Browne that his charges are “capable of matching” the league’s pacesetters.

He said: “I’m hoping the lads will take the performance from Saturday’s result. That proved we’re capable of matching the sides at the top of the league.

“It’s about doing that on a consistent basis, so Saturday will be a good test for us against supposedly one of the weaker sides.”

Ross Doidge (hamstring) is a major doubt for the clash, but Sam Buckler, Carl Morris and Billy Mitchell are all in contention for a recall.
